Mission Federal Credit Union
Mission Federal Credit Union is the largest locally owned financial institution based in and exclusively serving San Diego County. Mission Fed[1] is federally insured by the National Credit Union Administration and is an Equal Housing Lender. Mission Fed is accredited by the Better Business Bureau.
Origin[edit]
Mission Fed was founded in 1961 as Public Schools Federal Credit Union, with membership open to those working in the educational community. In 1978, the credit union changed its name to Mission Federal Credit Union and in 2003 expanded its membership to include all San Diegans.[2]
Leadership[edit]
Debra Schwartz, President and CEO[3]
Debra Schwartz has been the President and CEO of Mission Federal Credit Union since 2008. Prior to Mission Fed, Schwartz served in senior executive positions as Chief Financial Officer at First Future Credit Union and as Executive Vice President at San Diego County Credit Union, both San Diego-based institutions. She also held operational and financial leadership positions at other California financial institutions.
Schwartz earned a Bachelor of Science degree, magna cum laude from the State University of New York, and a master's degree in Business Administration from the University of Southern California, Marshall School of Business.[4] Schwartz currently serves on the executive committee as an at-large director on the National Association of Federal Credit Unions’ (NAFCU) Board of Directors.[5] She also serves on the Board of Directors of the Mission Federal Community Foundation,[6] the board of Autoland and on the Governing Board of Junior Achievement San Diego and Imperial Counties.[7]

Mission Fed is well known throughout the San Diego community due to their outreach programs and a variety of partnerships with education and other nonprofits across the county. Some of Mission Fed's community partners include Junior Achievement, the San Diego Zoo & Safari Park, Mission Federal ArtWalk[8] and the Boys & Girls Club of Greater San Diego. They have also worked towards boosting California's flagging financial literacy.[9] This strong focus on giving back through time, treasure and talent to the communities where its members live and work contributed to Mission Fed winning the prestigious honor of 2013 San Diego Philanthropic Corporation of the Year Award from the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP).[10]

Dear Members,We're happy to announce that we will be reopening our branch lobbies on Monday, April 12th 2021!
As we have been doing since the start of the pandemic, La Joya Area Federal Credit Union remains committed to providing a safe and healthy workplace for all employees, members, and visitors. To ensure we continue to provide these measures, we have developed a COVID-19 Preparedness Plan for Reopening our Lobbies.
What You Need To Know
Members and visitors will be asked to conduct a Covid-19 self-assessment prior to entering our lobbies and will be asked to refrain from entering if they are experiencing symptoms or have been exposed to someone with COVID-19.
- We request members follow social distancing guidelines in our facilities. This includes, but is not limited to, maintaining 6 feet of distance from others and wearing a mask while in the building. Please note that you may be asked to lower your mask briefly for identifying purposes in some instances
- Hand sanitizer will be made available in the lobbies for use before and after transactions are completed
- Employees will be following increased cleaning and disinfecting protocol, and safety shields have been installed at all member service areas
- We request members to schedule appointments for lengthy transactions, loan requests and account openings when possible
- While we are happy to be reopening our branch lobbies, we encourage our members to conduct their banking and communication needs through the use of drive thru lanes, ATMs, Mobile Banking, and Telephone.

Mission Federal Credit Union is the largest locally owned financial institution based in and exclusively serving San Diego County. Mission Fed[1] is federally insured by the National Credit Union Administration and is an Equal Housing Lender. Mission Fed is accredited by the Better Business Bureau.

Mission Fed was founded in 1961 as Public Schools Federal Credit Union, with membership open to those working in the educational community. In 1978, the credit union changed its name to Mission Federal Credit Union and in 2003 expanded its membership to include all San Diegans.[2]

Debra Schwartz, President and CEO[3]
Debra Schwartz has been the President and CEO of Mission Federal Credit Union since 2008. Prior to Mission Fed, Schwartz served in senior executive positions as Chief Financial Officer at First Future Credit Union and as Executive Vice President at San Diego County Credit Union, both San Diego-based institutions. She also held operational and financial leadership positions at other California financial institutions.
Schwartz earned a Bachelor of Science degree, magna cum laude from the State University of New York, and a master's degree in Business Administration from the University of Southern California, Marshall School of Business.[4] Schwartz currently serves on the executive committee as an at-large director on the National Association of Federal Credit Unions’ (NAFCU) Board of Directors.[5] She also serves on the Board of Directors of the Mission Federal Community Foundation,[6] the board of Autoland and on the Governing Board of Junior Achievement San Diego and Imperial Counties.[7]

Mission Fed is well known throughout the San Diego community due to their outreach programs and a variety of partnerships with education and other nonprofits across the county. Some of Mission Fed's community partners include Junior Achievement, the San Diego Zoo & Safari Park, Mission Federal ArtWalk[8] and the Boys & Girls Club of Greater San Diego. They have also worked towards boosting California's flagging financial literacy.[9] This strong focus on giving back through time, treasure and talent to the communities where its members live and work contributed to Mission Fed winning the prestigious honor of 2013 San Diego Philanthropic Corporation of the Year Award from the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP).[10]
