Is cinnamon toast crunch good for you -

Cinnamon Toast Crunch is one of my all-time favorite cereals. It’s actually my go-to airport snack—I buy a single-serve container and eat it, no milk, like candy, savoring every gosh darn bite.⁣ This healthy Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal is actually so easy to make, it will become your new favorite snack in a heartbeat!
⁣⁣
Making your own version of childhood favorite cereals has become SUCH a TikTok trend and when I saw an amazing Cinnamon Toast Crunch recipe, I knew I had to try.

It was shockingly simple—it’s pretty much a riff on my 3-ingredient grain-free cracker recipe—and so, so satisfying. You barely need any ingredients and the hands-on time is minimal—mostly, you’re just waiting for these babies to crisp up in the oven. And they do get CRISPY so enjoy with your favorite milk or just shove ’em in your face like I do ? ⁣⁣
⁣⁣

What is this Cinnamon Toast Crunch a healthy option?

This recipe uses just a few simple ingredients: a mix of almond flour and ground flax seeds for the base, a small amount of coconut sugar to sweeten, and some vanilla extract and cinnamon to add a lovely flavor.

Flax seeds are one of my favorite ingredients—combined with water, they create an egg-like binder that holds the cereal together. They also are rich in healthy fats and are great for helping with digestion.

I love using almond flour as a base for recipes. Because it’s high in protein and healthy fat, it keeps your blood sugar far more stable than traditional white flours. The blood sugar spikes and dips are one of the most unhealthy parts of eating sweet treats—they have a cascading negative impact on hormones, which can lead to belly fat accumulation, insulin resistance, and more negative side effects. The cinnamon offers further metabolic benefits, and just makes these taste REALLY good.

Basically, you get all of the joy of the Cinnamon Toast crunch from your childhood—without the negative impact on your body!

Substitutions for Healthy Cinnamon Toast Crunch

This recipe includes just a few simple ingredients:

  • Ground flaxseeds⁣⁣
  • Almond flour⁣⁣
  • Fine grain sea salt⁣⁣
  • Vanilla extract⁣⁣
  • Water⁣⁣
  • Cinnamon
  • Coconut sugar ⁣⁣
  • Avocado oil

There isn’t really a substitute for the ground flaxseeds, since they act as a binder in the recipe. The almond flour could potentially be subbed for oat flour, but you’d likely use less and I haven’t tested so I can’t vouch for it. For coconut sugar, you can always sub brown sugar and get equivalent results, and the avocado oil can be subbed for any neutral tasting oil, although you’ll miss out on some of the health benefits!

Cinnamon Toast Crunch

General Mills breakfast cereal

Not to be confused with French Toast Crunch.

Cinnamon Toast Crunch (CTC),[1] known as Croque-Cannelle in French Canada and Curiously Cinnamon in the UK (previously Cinnamon Grahams), and as a variant called Cini Minis in other European and Latin American countries, is a brand of breakfast cereal produced by General Mills and Nestlé. First produced in 1984,[2] the cereal aims to provide the taste of cinnamon toast in a crunch cereal format. The cereal consists of small squares or rectangles of wheat and rice covered with cinnamon and sugar. Because of its rice content, when immersed in milk, one can hear "snap" sounds coming from it, similar to Rice Krispies. In most European countries and North America the product is sold in boxes but in Poland and Russia the cereal is sold in bags. The product was originally marketed outside Europe with the mascot of a jolly baker named Wendell, but was replaced as a mascot by the "Crazy Squares" which are sentient Cinnamon Toast Crunch squares that often eat each other in commercials. As of 2019, Cinnamon Toast Crunch revealed a new logo to reflect on the world of the cinnamon squares.

History[edit]

Originally the cereal featured plain squares but currently features artificial "cinnamon swirl" coloration in each piece. The cereal was originally invented by scientist John Mendesh and by General Mills assistant product manager Elisabeth Trach after receiving the idea from an unnamed child in a "give us your best idea for a cereal" radio contest held by General Mills. The child received a set of Hot Wheels toys as a Grand Prize. Starting in 1985 there were three animatedbakers as the mascots, one of which is named Wendell. The other two bakers, known as Bob and Quello, were considerably more youthful in appearance than Wendell. Eventually the younger bakers were dropped, leaving Wendell as the sole mascot for several years.

United Kingdom[edit]

The product was first introduced to the United Kingdom and Ireland in 1998 by Cereal Partners, as Cinnamon Toast Crunch, the same name as the popular North American cereal brand.[3] The name was later[when?] changed to Cinnamon Grahams, similar to Golden Grahams, another Nestlé product. The name was once again changed to its current name of Curiously Cinnamon produced by Cereal Partners under the Nestlé brand.[3]

Description[edit]

Close-up of Cinnamon Toast Crunch

Cinnamon Toast Crunch consists of wholegrain wheat and rice squares about 1.37cm in size, which are then coated with a blend of cinnamon and sugar, and fortified with various vitamins and minerals.[citation needed]

One serving of Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal, equal to ¾ cup (177 mL) or 31 g, has 130 calories (544 kJ), or 170 calories (711 kJ) with ½ cup (118 mL) of skim milk. A single serving has 3 g of total fat, no cholesterol, 220 mg of sodium, and 45 mg of potassium. One serving has 25 g of total carbohydrates with 2 g of dietary fiber and 9 g of sugars with 14 g of other carbohydrates. A single serving also contains 1 g of protein.[4] Cinnamon Toast Crunch was reformulated in the early-2010s industry-lead sugar reduction effort: the original formulation contained 10 grams per 3/4 cup serving, while the 2012 reformulation (still current as of 2021) contains 9 grams sugar per 3/4 cup serving.[5]

Marketing[edit]

Originally, the three bakers were the mascots. The cereal did not have a slogan. Starting in 1995, it was given the slogan: "The taste you can see." In 2007, Cinnamon Toast Crunch experimented with a new slogan, "It's That Intense," but switched back after poor reception.[citation needed] In 2009 the slogan became "Crave those crazy squares".

In 1997, appealing to adult-oriented programming, a campaign featured the slogan "The adult thing to do", mostly centering on their adult things going back to children's stuff, including cereal (which a fictional "adult" cereal named "Health Pellets" was featured before replacing it with Cinnamon Toast Crunch). This was changed in 2004 to "Breakfast on a whole other level", which was replaced with the "Crave those crazy squares" in 2009.[citation needed]

Current advertisements for this cereal portray adults in some form unable to "see what makes them so popular," the adult guesses something completely off the wall, and usually related to the adult's profession, whereby the children correct them and loudly say "It's the cinnamon sugar swirls in every bite!". However, the cereal is also currently advertised directly to adults, as a healthy breakfast choice with a great taste they grew up with.[citation needed] Either way, the portrayal has worked; it is favored in 54% of states in the United States.[6]

Spin-offs of the cereal[edit]

There have been at least five offshoots of the cereal: Chocolate Toast Crunch,French Toast Crunch in 1995 and again in 2015, Peanut Butter Toast Crunch in 2004 and 2013, Frosted Toast Crunch in 2012, and Sugar Cookie Toast Crunch for the 2014 holiday season.

French Toast Crunch is shaped like many little French toast slices, reminiscent of the style of Cookie Crisp. It was discontinued in 2006, but made a return in 2015 due to its cult popularity among its fans.[7]Peanut Butter Toast Crunch was a cereal consisting of flakes similar but darker to Cinnamon Toast Crunch. Frosted Toast Crunch resembles Cinnamon Toast Crunch with vanilla coating. This cereal was discontinued by 2006.[citation needed] As another offshoot, Monopoly Cereal was a limited edition product created in April 2003 by General Mills. The cereal was like Cinnamon Toast Crunch but with the addition of marshmallows based on the pieces in the Monopoly game, such as houses and hotels. Sugar Cookie Toast Crunch was like Cinnamon Toast Crunch except with a sugar cookie taste.

A bowl of Cini Minis Churros

In Germany, Austria, Romania, Hungary, and Israel, where a variant of the cereal is known as Cini Minis, a strawberry flavoured variant named Erdbeer Minis/Strawberry Minis exists.[citation needed] In Germany and Austria it replaced a previously existing apple flavoured variant called Äpple Minis.[citation needed] This strawberry flavoured variant was later released in the UK as Curiously Strawberry.[citation needed]

In 2018, Cinnamon Toast Crunch Churros were introduced. The cereal has the same cinnamon sugar flavor as the original but is shaped like a mini churro.[8]

Shrimp tail contamination incident[edit]

On March 22, 2021, American writer, rapper and podcaster Jensen Karp found what appeared to be discarded shrimp tails in his Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal; his tweets about the incident went viral.[9] Additionally, Karp found a piece of string,[10] “small black pieces” embedded into some pieces of the cereal alongside an object which looked like a pea.[11] General Mills then issued a statement on Twitter claiming the tails were "an accumulation of the cinnamon sugar that sometimes can occur when ingredients aren’t thoroughly blended".[12] As of 23 March, General Mills claim they are investigating the case, but that contamination "did not occur at [their] facility".[13]

The incident was covered internationally by multiple major news outlets, who were critical of the company's response.[14][15][16]

You Should Think Twice About Eating Cinnamon Toast Crunch. Here's Why

Sometimes, it's incredibly convenient to grab a box of cereal with a cup of cold milk on busy mornings. You get to treat yourself to a delicious breakfast with minimal prep, after all. As far as cereal fans are concerned, there is no dearth of options in a market that's always overflowing with new flavors. One of the varieties that's immensely popular is Cinnamon Toast Crunch from General Mills.

As per the General Mills website, the cereal is meant for fans of all ages, adults and kids alike. In fact, its tagline is self-explanatory: "everyone is a kid at heart." Good nutrition, however, is important for everyone, regardless of age, which brings us to one of the main drawbacks to fueling your day with Cinnamon Toast Crunch. The cereal isn't great for your health at all and can hurt you in more ways than one. Wondering why? Read on to know more. The 10 Worst Cereals You Can Buy, According to Their Nutritional Value

I'm a major cereal enthusiast. Every morning, I kick off my day with a hearty bowl of Golden Grahams or Lucky Charms. This morning, however, as I munched on my delicious cereal, I wondered if I was actually getting the nutrition I needed to take on the day from this sugary bowl of cereal. With some serious questions forming in my head, I needed to investigate. The American Heart Association recommends a maximum of 6 teaspoons (25 grams) of added sugar per day for females, or 9 teaspoons (38 grams) for males.

Most of the cereals in the supermarket contain more than half the recommended daily sugar intake for women in just one serving. Unfortunately, some of my favorites made the list of the most unhealthy cereals. That being said, here are the worst cereals you can buy, based on their nutritional value and sugar content.

1. Honey Smacks

To kick off the list, one of the worst cereals that I discovered is Kellogg's Honey Smacks. One serving of this cereal may only be 110 calories, but there's a whopping 16 grams of sugar in it. Not to mention, there's only 1 gram of fiber and only 2 grams of protein. The cereal also contains trans fats, which can increase your risk of developing heart disease, stroke, or diabetes. Oh, and this cereal is 55 percent sugar in weight.

2. Trix

I'm not sure which I liked more: the actual Trix cereal or those hilarious commercials featuring the beloved rabbit. Regardless, this cereal is loaded with 10 grams of sugar per 1 cup serving. Trix also contains high-fructose corn syrup, which is often linked to a higher risk of obesity.

3. Cinnamon Toast Crunch

A personal favorite of mine, Cinnamon Toast Crunch tops the list with 9 grams of sugar and 130 calories only ¾ of a cup. This cereal also contains 3 grams of fat and very little protein or fiber.

4. Oreo O's

chocolate, sweet, candy, coffee, milk, cream, goody

It’s not completely hard to believe that a cereal named after a cookie is not the healthiest option for breakfast. This cereal is pretty unhealthy, with 13 grams of sugar. Maybe you should just stick to regular Oreo cookies as a once in a while treat.

5. Cocoa Krispies

Cocoa Krispies is an ode to my childhood breakfasts. Unfortunately, 3/4 cup of this chocolatey cereal contains 120 calories with 12 grams of sugar. With no fiber and just 1 gram of protein, this cereal presents a consumer with limited nutritional value.

6. Fruit Loops

corn, sweet, cereal, candy

Kellogg’s Fruit Loops are44 percent sugar by weight, with 12 grams per serving. The cereal also contains partially hydrogenated oils, a source of trans fats. For those reasons, it's best to stay away from this colorful, fruity cereal.

7. Raisin Bran

Shockingly, this supposedly-healthy cereal actually contains some of the most sugar of all the cereals on the list. With a whopping 18 grams of sugar per cup, Raisin Bran also is higher in calories and contains high-fructose corn syrup. What puts it lower on the list, however, is its 7 grams of fiber and 5 grams of protein.

8. Fruity Pebbles and Cocoa Pebbles

candy

Fruity Pebbles and Cocoa Pebbles are tied at the eighth spot on this list of the worst cereals for you. You might prefer one over the other, but both of these cereals are not the healthiest. They contain 9 and 10 grams of sugar per serving, respectively. Lay off the Pebbles, guys.

9. Lucky Charms

cream, sprinkles, candy, cake, chocolate, ice

Unsurprisingly, General Mill’s famous marshmallow-filled cereal makes the list of the worst cereals. Just 3/4 cup of Lucky Charms contains 110 calories, 10 grams of sugar, just 2 grams of fiber and protein each. Although this cereal has no trans fats or high fructose corn syrup, it should not be consumed on the regular.

10. Frosted Flakes

10 grams of sugar and a serious lack of fiber and protein place this favorite on the list of worst cereals. I know, Tony the Tiger is just as disappointed as both you and I are. Frosted Flakes is a tried-and-true breakfast staple for most children. It's a sad day to see this box of cereal on the list.

My research showed me that most of my favorite cereals I grew up eating don't exactly provide much nutritional value. Perhaps we should view these sugary cereals as more of an occasional treat, rather than a daily breakfast. There are certainly better, healthier ways to start your mornings.

Cinnamon Toast Crunch

Not to be confused with French Toast Crunch.

Cinnamon Toast Crunch (CTC),[1] known as Croque-Cannelle in French Canada and Curiously Cinnamon in the UK (previously Cinnamon Grahams), and as a variant called Cini Minis in other European and Latin American countries, is a brand of breakfast cereal produced by General Mills and Nestlé. First produced in 1984,[2] the cereal aims to provide the taste is cinnamon toast crunch good for you cinnamon toast in a crunch cereal format. The cereal consists of small squares or rectangles of wheat and rice covered with cinnamon and sugar. Because of its rice content, when immersed in milk, one can hear "snap" sounds coming from it, similar to Rice Krispies. The product was originally is cinnamon toast crunch good for you outside Europe with the mascot of a jolly baker named Wendell, but was replaced as a mascot by the "Crazy Squares" which are sentient Cinnamon Toast Crunch squares that often eat each other in commercials. As of 2019, Cinnamon Toast Crunch revealed a new logo to reflect on the world of the cinnamon squares.

History[edit]

Originally the cereal featured plain squares but currently features artificial "cinnamon swirl" coloration in each piece. The cereal was originally invented by scientist John Mendesh and by General Mills assistant product manager Elisabeth Trach after receiving the idea from an unnamed child in a "give us your best idea mission federal credit union online banking login a cereal" radio contest held by General Mills.

This was changed in 2004 to "Breakfast on meredith village savings bank alton nh whole other level", which was replaced with the "Crave those crazy squares" in 2009.[citation needed]

Current advertisements for this cereal portray adults in some form unable to "see what makes them so popular," the adult guesses something is cinnamon toast crunch good for you off the wall, and usually related to the adult's profession, whereby the children correct them and loudly say "It's the cinnamon sugar swirls in every bite!".

The incident was covered internationally by multiple major news outlets, who were critical of the company's response.[14][15][16]

What is this Cinnamon Toast Crunch a healthy option?

This recipe uses just a few simple ingredients: a mix of almond flour and ground flax seeds for the base, a small amount of coconut sugar to sweeten, and some vanilla extract is cinnamon toast crunch good for you cinnamon to add a lovely flavor.
